Valencia in January

Weather (AEMET normals, València city station 8416, 1981–2010)

• Coldest month: avg 11.8 °C, high 16.4 °C, overnight low 7.1 °C.
• Rain ~37 mm over ~4–5 days — one of the driest months (October is the wettest).
• Daylight 15 Jan: sunrise 08:20, sunset ~18:01 (9 h 41 min). Mornings are cold (6–8 °C until ~11:00) and dark until after 08:00 — plan market/indoor mornings and golden-hour Turia walks.
• Airport series (timeanddate) runs slightly cooler/wetter — immaterial.
• Jacket + layers; terraces run all winter and are full of locals on weekends. Beach = walk, not swim.

What’s on / off around 15–17 Jan

• San Antonio Abad (Sant Antoni del Porquet) falls ON the trip: festivity weekend Sat 16 – Sun 17 Jan 2027 — Porrat market on Carrer de Sagunto, bonfire cremà Sat evening (~21:30), animal-blessing parade Sunday. Free, 10 min from the old town.
• King’s Day (6 Jan) long past; San Vicente Mártir (local holiday) is Fri 22 Jan 2027 — after the trip. No closures expected for the stay itself.
• Sundays: large stores closed by law; municipal monuments free but short hours (Lonja/towers/IVAM close 14:00); Mercat Central closed — shop it Saturday.

Entry (UK passport)

• EES biometric entry/exit in force (full rollout completed Apr 2026) — expect biometric enrollment at the border; allow extra queue time.
• ETIAS: not required, cannot be applied for yet. Launch date pulled from official pages (Oct 2026); expected no earlier than later 2027 with months of notice. A Jan 2027 trip almost certainly needs nothing beyond the passport — re-check the official travel-europe.europa.eu/etias page ~6–8 weeks before flying. Ignore the scam “pre-registration” sites.

Pricing season

January is Valencia’s cheapest month (aggregators: ~50–60% below high season), but far-out Booking.com inventory is mostly unopened — quotes 15 months ahead skew high and thin. Trust the season, distrust today’s far-dated prices; re-check accommodation in November–December.
