Tenerife Christmas 2026 — plan
Wed 23 – Sun 27 Dec 2026 (4 nights, 5 days), 2 adults, London → Los Cristianos. Beach-and-Christmas-atmosphere trip with one Teide day and serious but casual eating. Verdict: go, and book this week — Christmas-week inventory is already tight. See tenerife and tenerife-at-christmas for destination/season background, and tenerife-restaurants for the ranked top-20 eating shortlist (17 of 20 in the south corridor; splurges El Rincón de Juan Carlos and Troqué in La Caleta — book ahead).
The return-date call
Ryanair Stansted prices both options identically (checked 17 Oct 2026):
- Fri 26 Dec 18:55 → 23:20 STN (£50.93) — civilized: full Boxing Day, home by midnight.
- Sun 27 Dec 06:00 → 10:25 STN (£50.93) — an extra full day, but the hotel wake-up is 04:00. Ryanair’s only TFS–London morning slots are ~06:00.
Recommendation: 27th if we want the extra beach day (the plan below assumes it); take the 26th if an alarm at 04:00 on a holiday sounds miserable. easyJet/Jet2 (LGW/STN) run daytime rotations — worth one comparison check at booking time; their Christmas-week fares weren’t verifiable when checked.
Flights (verified 17 Oct 2026, Ryanair STN)
| Leg | Flight | Time | Fare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wed 23 Dec STN→TFS | FR578 | 20:20→00:45+1 | £128.99 pp |
| Sun 27 Dec TFS→STN | FR579 | 06:00→10:25 | £50.93 pp |
Only one STN departure on the 23rd — the late evening one (lands TFS 00:45 Christmas Eve). Alternative: Thu 24 Dec 07:00 FR2425 at £175.94 if the midnight arrival annoys. Bags/seats extra — budget ~£60–80 pp for two cabin bags + seats. ⚠️ Book now; these fares are rising weekly (21 Dec was £99.97, 24 Dec £175.94).
Base: Los Cristianos
South-coast base per trip type: driest/sunniest, everything walkable, Christmas-lit seafront. Hotel-area reality check (Dec 2026): LC averages ~£150/night in December with wide spread; Christmas week sits at the top of it; clickstay’s December LC average is ~£980/week. Priced shortlist to verify on Booking.com for 23–27 Dec:
- Value pick: Klayman Olivina Aparthotel — modern 1-bed apartments, rooftop pool + bar, 10 min walk to beach and town, 4.6/5 (550+ reviews). Est. £130–170/night.
- Budget fallback: Checkin Bungalows Atlantida — bungalow complex, big pool, December average ~£135/night.
- Comfort: 4★ near Playa de las Vistas (e.g. Spring Arona Gran adults-only class) — est. £180–250/night Christmas week.
⚠️ Christmas-week LC apartments book out first; target a free-cancellation rate now, decide by early November.
All-inclusive option (assessed 17 Oct 2026)
Possible but not recommended for this trip. Nearby AI hotels: Spring Arona Gran
(adults-only, beachfront LC — closest fit), Iberostar Selection Sábila and AluaSoul
Costa Adeje (adults-only premium). Christmas-week pricing unverified, but Dec anchors
(TUI £596pp/5 nights AI from Gatwick on 12 Dec; Expedia ~£288pp/4 nights mid-Dec ex-MAN)
imply £600–850 pp ex-London for 23–27 Dec. That’s comparable to the apartment plan
(£1,550–2,000 total) — but AI locks meals into a buffet for a food-focused 4-night
trip and conflicts with the eating-out itinerary (Nochebuena, La Caleta, guachinche).
Middle path if wanted: half-board at the Arona Gran. See tenerife-at-christmas
for why Christmas-week hotel prices bite.
Getting there & around
- TFS → Los Cristianos: taxi €25–35 (night rate after 22:00, so ~€35 on the 00:45 arrival), 15–20 min. Return: 06:00 flight → taxi ~04:00, ~€30. Bus 111/343 is €3.70 and 25 min but doesn’t fit these flight times.
- No hire car needed for this plan; a Teide tour with hotel pickup beats self-driving a snowy mountain in December. If we self-drive instead: TF-21 from the south, ~1 h, chains sometimes required in winter.
Day by day
Wed 23 Dec — fly late. Day in London; Stansted 20:20, land TFS 00:45. Pre-booked taxi to Los Cristianos. (Supermarket run tomorrow morning — today’s options are shut.)
Thu 24 Dec (Nochebuena) — beach + lights. Slow morning after the late arrival; grocery stop for Christmas-morning breakfast (shops close mid-afternoon today). Afternoon on Playa de las Vistas — 21 °C sea, swimmable. Evening: Christmas lights along the LC seafront, then Nochebuena dinner — book ahead; El Romántico or El Ventorrillo (classic Canarian: papas arrugadas, queso asado, carne de cabra — both do meat/veg well, skip the fish specials). Optional midnight mass at the church by the harbour.
Fri 25 Dec (Christmas Day) — beach Christmas. Cable car is closed today (its one annual closure) and Teide tours don’t run, so: long beach morning, promenade walk, and a proper Christmas lunch — the resort hotels run Christmas buffets open to non-guests (~€35/head recently; The Winchester in Costa Adeje is the popular British one — book ahead). Lazy sunset on the harbour. Everything else tourist-side runs normally.
Sat 26 Dec — Teide day. ⚠️ Book the cable car (or tour) days ahead — Christmas week
sells out. Option A: half-day tour with hotel pickup to Teide National Park — lunar
landscape, cable car to 3,555 m (9:00–17:00, last ascent 16:00, €47 pp return) if
weather allows; snow likely up top, take real layers. Option B (weather-backup):
Adeje old town Christmas market + belén, La Caleta sunset. Evening: Genghis Khan
Grill, La Caleta — charcoal grill at the table, roast lamb, meat towers €25.50, papas
arrugadas — our splurge-ish slot (€35–45/head), or Mesón Era Las Mozas in Arona
(guachinche: grilled meats, house wine, ~€20/head) as the local outlier.
Sun 27 Dec — fly home. 04:15 taxi, 06:00 flight, Stansted 10:25, home by lunch. (On the 26th-return variant: Boxing Day beach morning, 18:55 flight instead.)
Budget (2 people, checked Oct 2026)
| Item | Estimate |
|---|---|
| Flights inc. bags/seats | £460–520 |
| Apartment, 4 nights (Christmas week) | £560–800 |
| Transfers (2 taxis) | £55–65 |
| Food (3 casual days + 2 nicer meals) | £350–450 |
| Teide cable car/tour + misc | £120–180 |
| Total | ~£1,550–2,000 (£775–1,000 pp) |
Fits “value-optimised”: the flight total is the Christmas-week bargain here (Ryanair); apartments are where Christmas week bites.
Risks & gotchas
- Booking window is now. Flares upward weekly; LC Christmas apartments are the scarcest item. Decisions (26th vs 27th, hotel) needed by ~1 Nov.
- Teide weather: wind/ice closes the cable car without notice — have the Adeje old-town + La Caleta backup (Day 4 option B) and check the operator’s status that morning.
- 24–25 Dec closures: shops shut 24 Dec pm and all 25 Dec; Nochebuena and Christmas lunch need bookings days ahead.
- The 06:00 Sunday flight is the price of the 5-day version.
- easyJet/Jet2 daytime alternatives unverified (browser tooling unavailable at planning time) — one Skyscanner pass before paying Ryanair is worth 10 minutes.
- EES biometrics at TFS both ways; allow queue time — see thessaloniki-in-early-spring.
